From Lt Col John Johnson, MDWG DOSD:

Twelve of the cadets performed as simulated "victims"  lying on the cold-cold ground amidst the debris field under an ominously towering cloud of black smoke from the adjacent live fire which crash crews quickly extinguished.  Then followed the first aid, triage, and medivac by the Fire Departments and Emergency Medical squads from the surrounding communities.

Meanwhile, the Ground Teams, at the direction of the Public Safety Officers, quickly established the perimeter of the incident site to control "ingress" and "egress".  They had to contend with spectators, the media, and "walking wounded" survivors all needing to be directed as to where they should go.  The teams on the access road did a valiant job of helping to direct the wall-to-wall jam of  all kinds of emergency vehicles.  (This was one of the main lessons learned by the ICS authorities).

When the exercise ended the Ground Teams assisted in a "clean-up" sweep of the incident site after which all participants  had a Mass Care "disaster worker's" lunch provided by the Baltimore City and Arundel County Fire Dept Auxiliaries and the Red Cross.

Cadets who participated in this disaster exercise can be credited with six hours of community service for their High School requirement.

All CAP personnel who participated in this disaster exercise are commended for their very professional performance.

Thanks again,
