June 07, 2005 - Major Tim Strickland (right) is presented the Civil Air Patrol Lifesaving Award by Group 3 Commander LtCol David Younce.  Major Strickland received the award for his actions on 11 December 2003, while assisting the victim of a motor vehicle crash.  While traveling on a work-related trip, Major Strickland came upon a motor vehicle collision on the New Jersey Turnpike that occurred only minutes before his arrival.  The driver of one of the vehicles was unable to get out due to her injuries and a fire was growing in the engine compartment of the vehicle.  After calling 911,Major Strickland assisted the woman from her vehicle, in spite of the danger to himself from the fire and the heavy traffic on the turnpike (it was also raining heavily),  and carried her to a safe location where he remained with her until police, fire and EMS units arrived.
